Tip of the Day – Multi dog action

Tip of the Day – Multi dog action

Action shots of dogs can be tricky at the best of times, but when you have multiple subjects, it compounds all those difficulties drastically. Which dog do you focus on? How do you get them all running towards you at once? Is it possible to get multiple dogs in focus? What do you do if one dog always seems to dominate the action? 🤷♀

This is an extensive topic and the answers to all these questions and more can be found in Episode 10 of RealShoots – we shoot stacks of action in this episode!

But I better share just one take-away tip to get you started:

In a group of dogs running towards you – choose a dog to focus on – and stick with it the entire run. Attempting to switch to a different dog halfway through is nearly impossible and will probably result in lots of missed focus shots. If one dog seems to be dominating the action and always in front (and the others are also keen to chase a ball regardless if that dog is included or not), then don’t be afraid to remove that dog completely – hold them on-lead away from the action. That way, you can concentrate on the others instead.

I think that was actually two tips!
