Tip of the Day – Highlight Clipping

Tip of the Day – Highlight Clipping

It can be really easy to accidentally “blow out” the highlights of white dogs in full sun. Blown out highlights result in no image data in the whitest parts of the image. To prevent this, shoot with the histogram visible on the back display of your camera. If the data in the histogram is being pressed up against the right – you may be clipping the highlights. You can also turn on highlight alerts on your camera which will give you a flashing overlay on the preview image to show blown highlights.
